AARON BURRY - PRESIDENT
Director of Parks and Recreation, City of Ottawa

Over the past 10 years, Aaron has lead and managed the delivery of social, recreation and health services within the Ottawa community.  He has worked extensively with provincial ministries on the development and improvement of public health and social services policy.

As a Director within the Community and Protective Services Department for the City of Ottawa, Aaron oversees community infrastructure, child care services, community funding and parks and recreation.  His consistently works with diverse communities and the private sector to build unique partnerships and recognizes the value of recreation in bringing to life vibrant and healthy communities.

A former President and current member of the Canadian Association of Public Health Dentistry, Aaron also holds a seat on the Committee of Specialized Affairs and the Canadian Dental Association.

Aaron’s personal interests include the maintenance of his physical fitness and his passion for tennis.

FRANK PROSPERO - PAST PRESIDENT
Recreation Supervisor, Town of Halton Hills

Frank has over 20 years' exeprience in the nonprofit sector and currently working with the Town of Halton Hills as Recreation Supervisor in charge of Community Development. In Halton Hills, he is responsible for the overall delivery of community development services in continuous response to the changing needs of the community. He champions key community development initiatives in culture, sport, recreation and volunteer management as well as innovative service delivery proposals.

Before joining Halton Hills, Frank was the founder of Get Active Now, a provincial organization that focuses on improving the lives of persons with a disability within their communities. In 2006, Frank won the Judge George Fergus Award from the Ontario March of Dimes and the Community Partner Award from the Independent Living Centre of Waterloo Region. In the past, Frank has received the Access Award from the City of Toronto and an Ontario Volunteer Service Award.

Frank’s personal interests include music, golf and being in the great outdoors.

DONALD F. MAY
Professionnal Consultant, Almost There

Based in Burlington, Ontario, Don is a professional land use planner with over thirty years experience in municipal, private and institutional consulting. He is past president of the Ontario Professional Planning Institute and the Burlington Art Centre. Don is interested in both the built form of our communities and the opportunities for everyone to be active throughout their lives. With a commitment to giving back to the community, Don believes that we all need to work together to improve our quality of life and general health. Don has continued to enjoy the outdoors by recently touring Georgian Bay and Algonquin Park in his kayak. He appreciates art and enjoys wood turning.

MARILYN WILLIS - TREASURER
Curriculum Consultant, Curriculum Development and Program Renewal
Fanshawe College

Marilyn began her career as a program director with the YMCA. She remained with the Y for 16 years and held a variety of positions in facilities in Ontario and British Columbia.

During this time, Marilyn began teaching part-time at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario and pursued a Masters Degree in adult education. In 1998, Marilyn was appointed coordinator of the Recreation and Leisure Services Program at Fanshawe.

Marilyn was part of a team of two that redesigned the entire recreation and leisure services course, building in quality assurance and a benefits of recreation focus. She was also a member of the curriculum development team for a new Ontario high school curriculum for Health and Physical Education and has been involved in the development of PRO's HIGH FIVE training programs.

ROBERT ARMSTRONG
Senior Vice President, YMCA Ontario

Rob Armstrong graduated from Queen's University with a duel degree in Physical and Health Education in 1979. He has since augmented his education with advanced learning courses from the Universities of BC, Calgary, Queens, Western Ivy School and Harvard Business School.  Rob is a 26 year professional with the YMCA having been CEO of the YMCA of Owen Sound from 1990-1997 and Cambridge from 1997-2006. He currently holds the position of Senior Vice President of YMCA Ontario. Within this position he provides consultation and support to all YMCA’s in Ontario with emphasis on working with Boards of Directors on strategic planning, governance and operational support issues.

BRIAN CONNORS
Parks and Foresstry Analyst, City of Mississauga

Brian brings over 20 years of experience in municipal aquatic services to his position on the PRO Board. Since 2002 Brian has been the Aquatic Analyst for the City of Mississauga. Brian is responsible for reviewing indoor and outdoor aquatic operations, city wide aquatic training, and risk management.

Brian is also involved in aquatics through his volunteer positions as a vice president of the Ontario branch of the Lifesaving Society and was a member of the Public Spa 428 advisory committee to the Ministry of Health. Brian has also been active in developing the National Lifesaving Sport coaches program and has run various Provincial and National level lifesaving Sport competitions. He is also a competitive master swimmer in Burlington.

MARK DEBRUYN
Manager, Dovercourt Recreation Association

Mark’s background is in the not-for-profit recreation sector, where he worked with the YMCA/YWCA before becoming the Manager of the Dovercourt Recreation Association in the City of Ottawa. He is responsible for the operation and supervision of over 85 programs in recreation, sport and the arts for all ages, from preschoolers to older adults, as well as a Day Camp program that hosts over 350 children each week.

As the PRO Board liaison for the Volunteer Interest Area, Mark brings hands-on experience from his work with the Ottawa Chamber of Volunteer Organizations (OCVO). The OCVO is a coalition of community organizations working together to make a greater impact on the vitality of the communities in Ottawa.

In addition to his role on the PRO Board, Mark is certified with Parks and Recreation Ontario as a HIGH FIVE® Trainer.

JAMIE HOUSTON
Director of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services, City of North Bay

Jamie Houston has been involved in the municipal parks and recreation field for more than 30 years. His professional background is in Design (Fanshawe College) and Landscape Architecture (U of T). Over his career he has served on various parks and recreation boards and committees throughout northeastern Ontario. Jamie also participated for many years on the Ontario Parks Association's executive, serving as their president in 1989. Jamie most enjoys (along with his dedicated staff) the challenge of getting his community involved in meaningfull parks, recreation, leisure and cultural activities that both serve them and protects the environment that we all live, work and play in. Jamie presently holds the position of Director of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services for the City of North Bay.

LYNN LOUBERT
Manager of Aquatics, City of London

Lynn brings over 15 years of experience in municipal aquatic services to her position on the PRO Board. As the Manager of Aquatic Services for the City of London, Lynn is responsible for all indoor and outdoor aquatic services in the City, a position she has held since 1991.

Lynn is also involved in aquatics through her volunteer positions as Aquatic Safety Audit Director and Area Chair with the Lifesaving Society. She is also an executive member of London Minor Lacrosse and the World 2006 Field Lacrosse Championships. Lynn’s experience in sports event planning also includes volunteer positions with a number of Games including the 2001 Canadian Summer Games, 2004 Winter and Summer Games, Can-Am Police Fire Games and the 2005 World Transplant Games.

In addition to her role as the PRO Aquatic Special Interest Area representative, Lynn is involved with the PRO Accreditation portfolio.

BARBARA TEATERO
Director, Museums of Burlington

Barbara has worked in the heritage field for the past 24 years. Currently Barbara holds the position of Director of Museums overseeing the operations of Joseph Brant Museum, Ireland House at Oakridge Farm and Oakridge Interpretive Centre their programs, buildings, outbuildings and property. As Director of Museums, Barbara is also responsible for the disposition of a wide range of resources including collections, buildings, people and funds. Prior to becoming Director of Museums, Barbara was the Curator/Administrator of Joseph Brant Museum. Barbara has served on a number of Boards and Committees including the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council, Industry Review Team; Tourism Burlington; City of Burlington, Major Community Facility Development Needs Study Team; Ontario Museum Association as a member Council, Council Secretary and Chair of the Human Resource Committee in addition to the "Get Mentored" program; MczCR, Museum Operating Grant Review Team; Arts Audience Dialogue Project; McMaster University Mentor Program; Canadian Museums Association as a member of the CMA Ethics Document Advisory Group; and, a variety of ad hoc special interest committees. "I am really looking forward to serving on the PRO Board and contributing to the excellent work of the organization."

LIZ WEAVER
Hamilton Roundtable on Poverty Reduction


Liz Weaver is the Director for the Hamilton Roundtable on Poverty Reduction, a cross-sectoral community initiative with a strategic focus on poverty reduction and the aspiration of Making Hamilton the Best Place to Raise a Child. Liz brings a wealth of community based experience, knowledge and leadership to this position. Liz has also held leadership positions with YWCA Hamilton, Volunteer Hamilton and Volunteer Canada. In 2002, Liz completed a Masters of Management for National Voluntary Sector Leaders through McGill University and her thesis 'Storytelling and the Voluntary Sector' was published. Liz was awarded a Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2002 for her leadership in the voluntary sector, was an Athena Award finalist and in 2004 was awarded the Women in the Workplace award from the City of Hamilton.

LARRY KETCHESON
Chief Executive Officer, Parks and Recreation Ontario

Larry has been the CEO of Parks and Recreation Ontario for the past eight years. Previously , he spent 11 years as a policy advisor with the former Ontario Ministry of  Tourism and Recreation and eight years as the National Program Coordinator for the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.   He began his career as Director of a Boys and Girls Club in Nova Scotia and he holds a Master's Degree from Dalhousie University.

Larry's work and volunteer experience in the parks and recreation sector spans over 30 years.  In addition to having served five years on the Board of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, Larry currently volunteers on the Board of Directors for the Lifestyle Information Network (LIN).
