Proposal for Restructured Parks and Recreation Field in Canada

In 2007, the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) and its Provincial/Territorial Partners (P/T Partners) formed a task group to improve the relationship between them in a way that would better serve the parks and recreation sector in Canada.  Parks and Recreation Ontario participated in the Partnership Agreement Renewal Task Group (PARTG).

After many volunteer hours, the PARTG has completed a report which outlines a proposal for a restructured national body for parks and recreation in Canada.  To view the report, please click here.
Your PRO Board of Directors has reviewed the report and endorses in principle the recommendations of PARTG and has prepared a summary of the report. Please click here to read the PRO summary.

At the upcoming CPRA AGM (October 10, 2008 in Quebec City – during the World Leisure Congress), CPRA is asking its members to pass a resolution to endorse and support the recommendation of the PARTG and implementation strategies in the final report. The resolution is available on the CPRA website.

You have several opportunities to learn more about the proposal and ask questions.

1.  PRO is hosting two information conference calls for all PRO members: September 30, 2008 at 12 pm EDT and October 2, 2008 at 12 pm EDT.  PARTG members will be available to answer questions. To participate in the call, click here to register.

2.  CPRA is also hosting a session at the World Leisure Congress (session D10, Tuesday October 7, 4 pm to 5:30 pm) to review the resolutions put forward for the 2008 AGM.  To provide you with some context, PRO has prepared a summary of the PARTG report for your consideration.

Your PRO Board of Directors believes there are many advantages to a national alliance and we encourage you to review the PARTG report.
