There are three categories of awards:
Award of Excellence in Aquatics Facility Design
Emerging Leader Award for Aquatic Personnel
Aquatic Legacy Grant

Note: Other Awards of Excellence (Operations, Park/Recreational Facility Design, Access & Equity), HIGH FIVE Awards and Academic Awards application deadline is in November. 

Application deadline is Wednesday, September 25, 2019

The nominator must be a current member of Parks and Recreation Ontario.

Only online applications will be accepted.

Please have your information ready before you begin the application. Responses to the online application cannot be saved for later completion. We strongly recommend drafting your responses in a separate document first and only completing this form when the entire application is ready for submission. You can find a copy of the application questions below.

Application information can be cut and pasted into the online application. The length of the information that can be copied is noted on the information page for each application.

Up to 16 documents can be attached to the application. Individual documents must be less than 16MB and be in one of the following formats: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif

To retain a copy of the application, print it prior to submission.

More than one application can be made by the same Nominator.

The review team ranks based on information provided for each question. If no information is available for a question, the review team is unable to rank in that area.


Award criteria and application requirements


Award of Excellence: Aquatics Facility Design
Categories for communities 0-19,999 pop., 20,000-99,999 pop. and 100,000 + pop.

This award is presented for completed projects that demonstrate excellence in the design intended for public use. Excellence is evident in the way in which the need for the aquatics facility was determined and how the design responded to that community need. The design is a model that promotes uniqueness, innovation, creativity and displays a high degree of design quality for recreation usage. Both new builds and retrofits qualify for this award. Application Requirements

Nominations for Aquatics Facility Design are accepted until September 27, 2019, and are presented at the PRO Aquatics Conference and Trade Show. 

Contact information for the Nominator.

Complete contact information regarding the nominated individual/group including the correct name and spelling to be included on the plaque.

A brief description of the project (max 400 words). 

How the need for the project design was determined (max 200 words).

How the design specifically responded to that need (max 200 words).

The nominated project should reflect innovation, creativity, and quality in its design for recreation use. Describe specific examples of how the project does this (max 400 words).

Excellence is that which is considered quality, superior, and with distinction as compared to others, and which is over and over the norm in industry standard. Specifically, state how this project is distinct as compared to other similar projects (max 200 words). 

Specifically, state how the project reflects excellence and goes above and beyond the industry standard (max 200 words).

Any additional information to support the application (max 200 words).

Up to 16 attachments that specifically support the application questions and letters of support from user groups, stakeholders, etc.




Award of Excellence: Emerging Leader
Categories for communities 0-19,999 pop., 20,000-99,999 pop. and 100,000 + pop.

This award recognizes the outstanding achievements and accomplishments of a professional in the early stages of their career as a leader, instructor, supervisor, administrator, consultant, or a combination of these in aquatics. Applicants must have a minimum of five and maximum of ten years full-time employment in the sector and may apply at any stage in life. The candidate will have the qualities and skills needed to hold a leadership position in the public, private or not-for-profit sector.

Complete contact information regarding the nominated individual including the correct name and spelling to be included on the plaque.

The dates and locations of employment and confirmation of current employment. 

The outstanding achievements and accomplishments the Emerging Leader has made in his/her workplace and/or community (max 400 words).

A summary of the nominee’s proven ability or potential to hold a leadership position in the parks and recreation sector (max 200 words).

Excellence is that which is considered quality, superior, and with distinction as compared to others, and which is over and over the norm in industry standard. Specifically, state how this individual is distinct as compared to others working in the sector (max 200 words).

How this individual specifically reflects excellence in their work and goes above and beyond the industry expectations (max 200 words).

Any additional information to support the application (max 200 words).

Up to 16 attachments that specifically support the application questions and letters of support from employers or clients, including a letter from the nominee's current supervisor/employer.

Aquatics Legacy Grant 
The Aquatics Legacy Grant was established to support individuals who, due to financial limitations, would not otherwise be able to attend the PRO Aquatics Conference and Trade Show.  The Grant covers the cost of accommodation and registration for one person.

Applicants must: 

Be a current PRO member (valid between application deadline and end of the Conference).

Hold a full-time position in aquatics.

Have support from their employer to, if selected, attend the Conference. 

Demonstrate financial need.

Demonstrate interest in learning from the Conference content.

Attend the full 2019 PRO Aquatics Conference and Trade Show - Nov. 5 - 8, 2019.

Write a short article about your experience and how you will apply what you learned at the Conference (to be published in the PRO Newsbrief).
Applicants will be notified of the results no later than October 18, 2019.
